Shell Works and Externals to construct a facility for a new Wickes Home Improvement store in Pennywell, Sunderland.
The projects comprised the construction of a steel framed structure, cloaked in composite cladding to the roof and walls. High level glazing alongside glazed entrances were installed with automatic sliding doors to both entrances and to the Outdoor Projects Centre at the rear of the building.
Internally, 3.5m high blockwork walls formed the perimeter with a high tolerance floor slab laid in readiness for the Fit Out works.
Externally to the front is a large carpark, inclusive of EV bays, Van bays and Click and collect, together with trolley stores and a cycle shelter. To the rear, formed with 4-6m high fences and netting, is the Outdoor Project Centre, storage compound and service yard.
The works were completed to the high standard expected by Wickes and the developer North East Property Partnerships. Refurbishment involved resurfacing, redecoration, fire compartmentation; upgrading the lighting, passenger lift and distribution boards, new fire alarm and smoke extraction services all of which will provide an improved parking experience for The Riverwalk customers.
